The map

About this Ivatsevichi map poster

Ivatsevichi is a district centre in Brest region, in western Belarus, on the main railway and highway corridor between Brest and Minsk. The town took its modern form around the railway, and the tracks still set the axis of the plan. Streets run parallel and perpendicular to the line, with residential blocks laid out on either side.

The surrounding land is typical of the region: flat, heavily forested, with patches of marsh and small rivers. On the map, the town is a clearly bounded area of streets surrounded by large blank spaces of woodland. It is a strong contrast that gives the poster a sense of isolation and order.

The district has a notable place in history. The village of Kosava and the nearby Merechevshchina estate, where Tadeusz Kościuszko was born, lie within it. The ruined Kosava palace is also nearby. An Ivatsevichi map poster focuses on the town itself, but that wider history is part of the place.

01

The main line

The Brest–Minsk railway runs straight through Ivatsevichi. It is the backbone of the town plan, and most major streets align with it.

02

Forest edge

Beyond the last streets, forest takes over. On the map, the town appears as a compact island of lines inside a much larger expanse of woodland.

03

Highway corridor

The main road between Brest and Minsk passes close by, running parallel to the railway and reinforcing the east–west direction of the whole landscape.
