The map

About this Jarabacoa map poster

Jarabacoa lies in a high valley of the Cordillera Central, the mountain range at the centre of the Dominican Republic. The town is often called the city of eternal spring because of its mild climate. From above, it is a compact centre in a basin, surrounded by forested slopes and linked to the outside world by roads that twist through the hills.

Rivers are central to the map. The Yaque del Norte, one of the country's longest rivers, and the Jimenoa flow near the town. Their valleys guide the roads, and their curves set the boundaries of the built-up area. Waterfalls in the surrounding hills, including Salto de Jimenoa and Salto de Baiguate, attract many visitors.

Jarabacoa is also a centre for outdoor activity: river rafting, hiking, and access to the trails toward Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean. A Jarabacoa map poster shows how a mountain town fits into its setting, with rivers and roads threading through a landscape of ridges.

01

River confluence

The Yaque del Norte and Jimenoa shape the valley around town. Their meandering lines give the poster movement and set the edges of the settlement.

02

Valley centre

The town's streets form a dense cluster on the valley floor. On the map, this compact core stands out clearly against the open slopes around it.

03

Mountain roads

Roads leave town along valleys and ridges, winding into the Cordillera. They trace the terrain in long, curved lines across the print.
