About this Jhārgrām map poster
Jhārgrām is the headquarters of the district of the same name in West Bengal, which was created in 2017 in the forested country known as Jangal Mahal. The ground here rises gently from the delta toward the Chota Nagpur plateau. The soil is red laterite, and sal forest remains close to town, so the streets on a map meet green space quickly on most sides.
The railway line toward Tatanagar runs through the town and acts as its spine. Main roads cross it and spread out into a loose, low-density pattern of neighbourhoods, markets and government offices. The Jhargram Raj Palace, the former seat of the local rulers, sits within its own grounds and forms one of the town's best-known landmarks.
