The map

About this Kamimaruko map poster

Kamimaruko lies in the Maruko area of Nagano Prefecture, in a valley that opens north toward Ueda and the Chikuma River basin. The former town of Maruko is now part of Ueda city. On a map its streets spread along the flat valley floor, and farmland and scattered houses give way to steep, forested slopes on either side.

The drawing is shaped by a river and the roads beside it. The main routes run up and down the valley, and smaller lanes connect them across fields and residential clusters. A close framing shows the fine grid of small plots and narrow roads typical of rural Japan, while a wider view shows how tightly the mountains contain the settlement.

The Maruko district was historically known for silk reeling, an industry that shaped many towns in this part of Nagano. A Kamimaruko map poster keeps that setting in view: a quiet inland valley, a winding river and a street pattern built from short, irregular segments rather than long urban avenues.

01

Valley floor

Most streets occupy the flat ground along the river, so the built area is long and narrow. Open slopes press in from both sides of the frame.

02

River line

A river runs through the valley toward the Chikuma basin. It appears as a slender, winding line that ties the scattered neighbourhoods together.

03

Small plot pattern

Between the houses, narrow roads divide farmland into small, irregular parcels. This fine texture, typical of rural Nagano, prints crisply at 300 DPI.
