About this Koga map poster
Koga lies at the western edge of Ibaraki Prefecture, close to where Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma and Saitama meet. Water defines the map. The Watarase River runs along the town's western side, and the Tone River flows nearby to the south. The flat land between them holds railway lines, residential streets and neat blocks of farmland.
Just northwest of the town is the Watarase Retention Basin, one of the largest flood-control reservoirs in Japan. It was created from wetlands and is now a Ramsar-listed wetland. On a poster the heart-shaped Yanaka Lake and the surrounding reed beds form a large, calm shape beside the street pattern of the town.
