About this Mafinga map poster
Mafinga is in Tanzania's Iringa Region, on the high plateau of the Southern Highlands. The main highway between Dar es Salaam and Zambia runs through the town, which grew along it. From above, Mafinga looks like a long, linear settlement, with side streets branching off the main road.
The area is known for its forestry. The Sao Hill plantation, one of the largest planted forests in Tanzania, lies nearby, and timber and sawmilling are important to the local economy. The rolling highland country around the town is divided into plantations, farms and scattered villages.
