The map

About this Mamporal map poster

Mamporal is the seat of Buroz municipality in Miranda State, in the Barlovento region east of Caracas. On a map it is a modest grid of streets around a central plaza, with houses extending along the roads toward neighbouring towns. Beyond them lies humid lowland crossed by rivers and streams, with low hills rising at the edges.

Barlovento has long been known for its cacao, grown in shaded groves across the lowlands, and for its Afro-Venezuelan traditions of drumming, music and festivals. Mamporal shares in both. The farmland around the town, with its irregular plots and winding tracks, reflects centuries of small-scale farming in a warm, wet climate.

A Mamporal map poster shows a Venezuelan town in its classic form: the square at the centre, the regular blocks around it, and roads that fade into a green, watery landscape. The pattern is calm and ordered, and it takes on a warm character in the Sand and Paper styles.

01

Central plaza grid

The town centre follows the Spanish colonial pattern of a square surrounded by regular blocks, clearly legible at the heart of the map.

02

Lowland waterways

Rivers and streams wind slowly through the flat, humid land nearby, drawing soft curves across the countryside around the small town.

03

Cacao country

Irregular farm plots and winding tracks surround Mamporal. They mark the farming landscape of Barlovento, where cacao has been grown for generations.
