Spin Ghar foothills
To the south the ground rises toward the Spin Ghar range, and roads and settlements thin out as the slopes steepen, leaving open space along that edge of the map.

The map
Markaz-e Woluswalī-ye Āchīn is the administrative centre of Achin District in Nangarhar province, eastern Afghanistan, close to the border with Pakistan. The town lies in a valley that drops north from the Spin Ghar mountains. On a map, settlement follows the flatter valley ground, and the terrain becomes steeper and emptier toward the south.
Streams draining from the mountains water fields and orchards, and villages collect along these watercourses and the roads beside them. The pattern is irregular and closely tied to the land. Compounds, lanes and farm plots form a fine, dense texture rather than a planned street grid.
A Markaz-e Woluswalī-ye Āchīn map poster renders that relationship between water, slope and settlement. Roads trace the valley, small lanes branch toward clusters of houses, and the fields between them stay open. The effect is spare and quiet, a portrait of a place shaped by mountain water and a narrow band of flat land.
To the south the ground rises toward the Spin Ghar range, and roads and settlements thin out as the slopes steepen, leaving open space along that edge of the map.
Streams from the mountains run north through the district, and fields and villages line their banks, giving the map its main organising lines.
Walled family compounds and the narrow lanes between them create an irregular, cellular texture that looks very different from a planned grid when drawn from above.

Why Markaz-e Woluswalī-ye Āchīn
Many families from Nangarhar now live far from their home districts. A map of Achin's centre keeps a sense of place and gives children who grew up elsewhere a way to picture where their family comes from.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are all editable, so you can use the district name in your preferred spelling or add a family name. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
