The map

About this Middelharnis map poster

Middelharnis lies on the north side of the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in South Holland. From above, its most distinctive feature is the harbour, a long, straight channel running from the edge of the old town out towards the Haringvliet. Around the centre, dykes and polder roads divide the flat land into regular fields, while the town itself forms a compact, closely built core.

The town is known far beyond the Netherlands through Meindert Hobbema's painting The Avenue at Middelharnis, completed in 1689 and now in the National Gallery in London. Its tall trees lining a straight road into the village show the same polder geometry still visible on the map. Middelharnis has long lived from fishing and shipping, and its old centre still reflects that past.

A Middelharnis map poster makes the most of the graphic quality of the Dutch landscape. The harbour cuts a bold line through the composition, the dykes trace clean curves along the water, and the polder pattern gives an even rhythm at the edges. In Blueprint or Classic black & white the result feels almost architectural.

01

Harbour channel

A long, narrow harbour leads from the town out towards open water. It is the strongest single line on the map and the reason Middelharnis grew here.

02

Polder grid

Straight roads and drainage ditches divide the reclaimed land into regular fields. This gives the surrounding area a calm, measured geometric pattern.

03

Haringvliet shore

Dykes follow the shoreline of the Haringvliet. They draw a smooth boundary between land and water along the north side of the island.

Why Middelharnis

A map that means something

Middelharnis suits anyone connected to the island, and art lovers who know Hobbema's avenue will enjoy seeing its landscape reduced to line. You can personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or a sailing date, and keep the coordinates line.

Five styles are available, from the crisp Blueprint to the softer Paper. Pay $9 for six HD sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF, or order a printed matte poster, optionally in a wooden frame, from print partners in 30+ countries.
