The map
Mizque is a town in Bolivia's Cochabamba department and the capital of the province of the same name. It sits in a valley southeast of the city of Cochabamba. The surrounding landscape is semi-arid, with eroded hills and a broad river bed, and the town occupies a modest patch of level ground within it.
Its centre follows the Spanish colonial pattern, with a plaza and blocks laid out around it, and that regular grid is easy to read on a map. Past the last streets the lines quickly give way to fields, riverbanks and slopes. The settlement looks like a small, orderly island in open terrain.
A Mizque map poster works because it has so little in it. Nothing crowds the frame: a tidy grid, a few roads leading out and the braided course of the river nearby. In black and white it has the clarity of an old survey sheet, which suits anyone who knows the valley.

The Mizque River runs through the valley near the town. Its wide, shifting bed forms a loose band that contrasts with the straight lines of the streets.
Dry hills rise around the valley floor. With no streets on them, they leave generous empty space that frames the town like the margin of a page.

Why Mizque
Mizque is the sort of place that stays with people: a family town, a stop on a long road through the valleys, or the setting of fieldwork or travel. A map keeps the real proportions of the place, small and complete.
Fill in the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or date that matters to you, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD downloads cost $9 and come in six sizes. Printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
