The map
Mosonmagyaróvár sits in the far northwest of Hungary, close to both the Austrian and Slovak borders. The town was formed in 1939 by joining two older settlements, Moson and Magyaróvár, and the map still shows two historic cores linked by a long main street. Its most distinctive feature is water: the Mosoni-Duna and the Lajta run through town and split into several branches.
Those branches are crossed by many small bridges, and from above the centre looks threaded with narrow channels and green banks. Streets bend around the water, islands of parkland appear between the streams, and the built fabric feels finer and more varied than in many towns of the same size.
Magyaróvár Castle stands near the river in the old centre and has long been home to an agricultural college, today part of a university faculty. A Mosonmagyaróvár map poster brings out the town's layered geography, with rivers, bridges, two joined cores and a castle, all within a compact and legible frame.
The Mosoni-Duna and the Lajta divide into several channels in the town, producing an intricate pattern of water lines and small islands.
The castle sits close to the river in the older part of town, its grounds forming a clear green space on the map near the water.
The centres of former Moson and Magyaróvár are linked by a long main road, giving the town a stretched, two-part shape.
