Ko e mape
Ghātāl is a town in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, on the banks of the Shilabati river. The land here is low and flat, part of the wider Gangetic delta plain, and water shapes the map. The river curves past the town, smaller channels cut through the surrounding fields, and the streets gather on the higher ground along the banks.
The Ghātāl area is well known for regular flooding during the monsoon, when the Shilabati and nearby rivers overflow. Flood control has been a long-running regional issue, and a flood management plan for the area has been debated for decades. Much of daily life in the town is closely tied to the rhythm of the river.
A Ghātāl map poster draws that relationship clearly. The river gives the composition its main line, the town's dense lanes sit along it, and the flat land around it opens out on every side. It is a quiet, honest image of a Bengal river town, made for people who know the landscape and its seasons.
The river bends past the town and defines its shape. On the map, it is the clearest and most important line in the composition.
The older, denser streets follow the bank. Their fine texture shows how the town grew close to the water for trade and transport.
Flat fields and small channels surround the town. The open, level land explains both its farming economy and its vulnerability to floods.
