The map
Quinze-Vingts is one of the four administrative quarters of the 12th arrondissement of Paris. It covers the area between Place de la Bastille, the Seine and the Gare de Lyon, and takes its name from the Hôpital des Quinze-Vingts, a hospital for the blind founded by Louis IX in the thirteenth century and moved to the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in 1780. On a map the district combines old faubourg streets with major transport structures.
The Opéra Bastille rises on the edge of the square, while Avenue Daumesnil runs southeast under the Viaduc des Arts, whose arches house craft workshops. On top of the viaduct is the Coulée verte René-Dumont, an elevated garden path laid over a former railway. To the south, the wide fan of tracks leading into the Gare de Lyon forms one of the largest shapes on the map.
A Quinze-Vingts map poster shows these contrasts clearly: the angled streets of the faubourg, the straight line of the viaduct, the rail yards and the curve of the Seine along the Bassin de l'Arsenal. In black and white the layers of old and industrial Paris fit together like a detailed architectural plan.

The rail approach to the Gare de Lyon spreads out in a broad fan of tracks, a strong graphic element in the southern part of the map.
The quarter meets Place de la Bastille in the north, where the Bassin de l'Arsenal leads the Canal Saint-Martin down to the Seine.
