The map
Rimavská Sobota lies in southern Slovakia on the river Rimava, from which it takes its name. It is the traditional centre of the Gemer region, and a large share of its population speaks Hungarian. On a map the town fills a flat stretch of the valley, and the river curves along its edge.
The historic centre is built around a large main square, with a Classicist church and the old town hall facing each other across it. Streets spread out from the square in a loose radial pattern. Further out there are housing estates, rail lines and roads that follow the valley toward Lučenec and the Hungarian border.
A Rimavská Sobota map poster shows the classic structure of a Central European market town: an open square at the centre, a ring of older streets, then larger modern blocks and the river running past. It is a clear, readable plan that looks good in black and white.
The large central square, with its church and old town hall, is the heart of the town. On the print it shows as an open space surrounded by tightly packed streets.
The river that gives the town its name curves past the centre. It adds a flowing line that the street network bends to follow.
Roads and railway lines follow the flat valley floor out of town. They stretch the plan into a long shape that points toward the neighbouring towns of Gemer.
