The map

About this Samut Prakan map poster

Samut Prakan lies just south of Bangkok on the lower reaches of the Chao Phraya River, close to where it enters the Gulf of Thailand. The map is shaped by the river's broad final curves, with the city stretching along the eastern bank and a network of canals, roads and industrial estates spreading across flat, low-lying land. Toward the coast the streets thin into ponds and mangroves.

Across the water lies Bang Krachao, a loop of land almost enclosed by a bend of the river and often described as Bangkok's green lung. On a poster it appears as a large, lightly marked area inside the curve, a strong contrast with the dense streets on either side. Main roads and expressways cut across the region in long straight lines toward Bangkok and the east.

Samut Prakan is known for the Erawan Museum, with its giant three-headed elephant, and for the Ancient City, an open-air park of reconstructed Thai monuments. Near the river mouth stands Phra Samut Chedi, a white chedi first built on an island in the stream. A Samut Prakan map poster captures a place where river, sea and the edge of a great city meet.

01

Chao Phraya mouth

The river makes its last wide bends here before reaching the Gulf of Thailand, drawing a broad, sinuous band of water through the poster.

02

Bang Krachao loop

A near-island of green land held inside a river bend, with few roads and much open space, it appears as a quiet void among denser districts.

03

Coastal fringe

Toward the gulf, streets give way to ponds, mangroves and tidal flats, so the edge of the map fades gradually from city into water.

Why Samut Prakan

A map that means something

Samut Prakan is where many people who work in Bangkok actually live, and where many travellers first arrive in Thailand. A map of it captures a side of the capital region that is rarely pictured, defined by the river rather than a skyline.

Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates to mark an address or a date. Five styles are available, including Blueprint and Sand, as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files for $9, or as a matte printed poster.
