The map

About this Samut Sakhon map poster

Samut Sakhon sits where the Tha Chin River meets the Gulf of Thailand, southwest of Bangkok. The town grew along both banks of the river near the mouth, and on the map the wide, winding water is the main feature. Streets and wharves line the banks, while canals and ponds spread out across the flat delta land beyond.

The town, often called Mahachai, is one of Thailand's major centres for fishing and seafood processing. Around it, coastal land is divided into salt pans and fish ponds, which appear on the map as neat rectangles near the gulf. The Maeklong railway line begins at Mahachai station on the riverbank. From there, ferries and a second stretch of the line continue west.

A Samut Sakhon map poster brings together river, town and coast. The broad curve of the Tha Chin runs through the middle. The dense riverside streets form the centre, and the geometric patchwork of ponds and pans extends toward the sea. The result is a detailed, many-layered picture of delta country.

01

Tha Chin River

A wide river curves through the town on its way into the gulf. It splits the map in two, with streets and wharves crowding both banks.

02

Salt pans and ponds

Toward the coast, the flat land is divided into rectangular pans and ponds. They form a precise grid that contrasts sharply with the irregular town streets.

03

Maeklong line

The railway line to Maeklong begins at Mahachai beside the river. Its track runs as a thin straight line through the dense town and out across the delta.

Why Samut Sakhon

A map that means something

Samut Sakhon is where many people's working lives are tied to the river and the sea, and for families from the town the map shows exactly how the two meet. It also appeals to anyone interested in the geography of the Thai delta.

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the river and canals especially well, and Sand gives the salt pans a warmer tone.
