The map
Sonāmukhi lies in the Bankura district of West Bengal, on the low, level plains of the lower Damodar basin. From above, the town is a close network of narrow lanes with a few larger roads running through it. Small ponds and tanks break up the pattern, a familiar feature of Bengal towns, and at the edges the streets give way quickly to a patchwork of cultivated fields.
It is a municipality with a long local identity, and it serves as a market and administrative centre for the villages around it. The countryside is flat, so the map is shaped less by hills than by water: ponds, irrigation channels and rivers in the wider district set the rhythm of the landscape.
A Sonāmukhi map poster focuses on that intimate scale. Lanes bend around water tanks, the main roads run straight out toward neighbouring towns, and the surrounding fields show as calm open space. In black and white, the town's fine-grained street pattern becomes a delicate drawing, well suited to a study, hallway or family room.
Small bodies of water scattered through the town interrupt the street grid and give the map soft, rounded shapes among the lanes.
The core is a dense web of narrow, irregular streets that reads as an intricate texture at poster scale.
The built-up edge meets agricultural land sharply, so the town appears as a compact island within the open Bengal plain.
