The map

About this Tervuren map poster

Tervuren lies just east of Brussels in Flemish Brabant, and its map is dominated by open green space. A formal park with long straight paths and ornamental ponds extends from the town centre, and the Sonian Forest spreads to the south, so the built area is framed by broad, calm expanses rather than by dense suburbs.

The town is best known for the Royal Museum for Central Africa, now the AfricaMuseum, built under King Leopold II, whose monumental building stands at the edge of the park. Leopold also created the Avenue de Tervueren, the long, tree-lined boulevard linking Tervuren to Brussels, along which a tram line still runs.

A Tervuren map poster captures a rare combination: a small town with the formal geometry of a royal park and the long, straight line of a grand avenue heading toward the capital. In black and white, the ponds and paths read as precise shapes against the quieter pattern of residential streets.

01

Tervuren Park

The formal park stretches out from the centre with straight avenues, long ponds and symmetrical paths, the most striking geometric feature on the map.

02

Avenue to Brussels

The broad boulevard created under Leopold II runs from Tervuren toward the city, drawing a long straight line across the composition.

03

Sonian Forest edge

The large forest to the south leaves a wide empty area on the poster, framing the town and emphasising its green setting.
