The map

About this Toyoake map poster

Toyoake is a small city in Aichi Prefecture, just south-east of Nagoya, on the gently rolling ground between Nagoya and the industrial area around Toyota. From above, it is almost entirely built up. Housing fills the valleys and low hills, with remaining ponds and green spaces in between, and rail lines and highways pass through.

The city's name is tied to one of the best-known events in Japanese history. The Battle of Okehazama, where Oda Nobunaga defeated Imagawa Yoshimoto in 1560, took place in this area. Toyoake and neighbouring Nagoya both maintain sites connected to it. Today the city is also home to Fujita Health University and its large hospital, which occupies a prominent campus.

A Toyoake map poster shows a dense, finely detailed residential city, where the street pattern adjusts to the small hills rather than following a strict grid. Ponds and parks break up the texture, and the rail and road corridors give it a clear frame.

Okehazama sites

Parts of the historic Okehazama battlefield lie in Toyoake. They are now surrounded by modern streets, a small memorial space within the built-up city.

02

University campus

The Fujita Health University and hospital campus is a large, distinctive block. Its buildings and grounds stand out among the surrounding housing.

03

Ponds and low hills

Irrigation ponds and gentle slopes shape the local street pattern. They add small open shapes and curving roads to an otherwise dense map.
