The map

About this Toyokawa map poster

Toyokawa lies in eastern Aichi prefecture, next to the city of Toyohashi, on a plain drained by the Toyokawa River. Its map is typical of the Japanese regional city. Dense residential streets are interspersed with fields and factories, and rail lines and main roads cross the plain in long, straight runs. The river runs along one side of the urban area, with hills rising to the north.

The city is best known for Toyokawa Inari, a large Buddhist temple of the Soto Zen school dedicated to the fox-associated deity Dakiniten. It draws visitors throughout the year, especially at New Year. The temple precinct and the shopping streets around it form the historic heart of town.

A Toyokawa map poster captures the fine grain of the residential streets, the river and its embankments, and the geometry of the rail lines. The temple district gives the centre a clear point of focus. It suits anyone with ties to eastern Aichi, or visitors who remember the rows of fox statues at the temple.
