The map

About this Villa Bisonó map poster

Villa Bisonó, widely known as Navarrete, lies in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic, a short distance northwest of Santiago de los Caballeros. The town stretches along the main highway toward the northwest of the country, and from above it looks like a line of development threaded onto a road, with side streets branching off into farmland.

The surrounding valley is some of the most fertile land on the island, and the area has long been tied to tobacco farming, which supplies the cigar industry centred on Santiago. A Villa Bisonó map poster captures that relationship: a modest urban centre set within wide fields and the fine network of rural roads that serve them.

To the north rise the foothills of the Cordillera Septentrional, and the land begins to fold into slopes and ravines where the road network loosens. Within town, the streets form a loose grid around the centre, stretched along the highway, so the whole settlement reads as a long, narrow shape against the valley.

Highway spine

The road running northwest from Santiago forms the backbone of the town, a strong line with streets branching off it on both sides.

02

Cibao farmland

Wide fields of the Cibao Valley surround the built-up area, crossed by rural roads that give the outer frame a fine, irregular texture.

03

Northern foothills

The first slopes of the Cordillera Septentrional rise to the north, where roads begin to follow the terrain instead of running straight.
