About this Voorschoten map poster
Voorschoten lies in South Holland between Leiden and The Hague. On a map its main feature is the Vliet, the old canal that links the two cities and runs straight along the eastern side of the village. The historic centre sits near the water. West of it, neighbourhoods give way to woods, meadows and the grounds of old estates toward Wassenaar.
The best known of these estates is Duivenvoorde Castle, a manor with centuries of history, set in a landscaped park that is open to visitors. The long line of estates, avenues and woodland along the edge of the coastal dunes has shaped Voorschoten's character. It is a village that grew between two cities but stayed noticeably green.
