About this Wadgassen map poster
Wadgassen is a municipality in Saarland, lying along the river Saar a little downstream from Völklingen, in the industrial heartland of south-western Germany. On a map it appears as several connected villages following the valley, with the river, railway and main roads running parallel along the valley floor.
The town grew around a Premonstratensian abbey founded in the twelfth century. After the abbey was dissolved, its buildings were used for glassmaking, and the former abbey site now houses the Deutsches Zeitungsmuseum, the German Newspaper Museum.
