Te mapa
Aguaytía lies in the Peruvian Amazon, in the Ucayali region, where the eastern foothills of the Andes meet the lowland rainforest. The town grew around the crossing of the Aguaytía River by the Federico Basadre highway, the road linking Lima and the central highlands to Pucallpa. On a map, river and road form a clear cross.
The Aguaytía bridge, a long suspension bridge, carries the highway over the river and is one of the town's best-known landmarks. The streets spread out along the riverbank and the highway in a modest grid, with forest and farmland surrounding them closely.
To the west, the land rises into the Cordillera Azul, and the road passes through the Boquerón del Padre Abad, a narrow gorge with waterfalls. An Aguaytía map poster frames the point where the highway meets the river, the town that grew from that crossing.
The suspension bridge carries the Lima–Pucallpa highway over the river, a short sharp line across water at the heart of the town.
The river winds through the rainforest past the town, its meanders and sandbars giving the map a strong natural curve.
The main road enters from the mountains and continues east toward Pucallpa, forming the town's main axis and its link to the rest of Peru.
