Waterfront souq
The restored souq along the coast keeps a dense, fine-grained pattern of lanes. It is visibly different from the large blocks of the newer districts inland.

Te mapa
Al Wakrah lies on Qatar's eastern coast, a short distance south of Doha. It began as a fishing and pearling settlement, and its restored waterfront souq, with low stone buildings and narrow lanes, still recalls that past. In recent decades the city has grown quickly and new residential districts have spread across the surrounding flat ground.
From above, the coastline is the main feature, a long, fairly straight shore against the calm, shallow Gulf. The old core near the water has a tight, irregular grain. Inland, the newer districts are laid out in broad blocks with ring roads, roundabouts and wide highways, the typical geometry of modern Gulf planning.
Al Wakrah gained international attention as a host city of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Its Al Janoub Stadium, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, takes its curved form from the sails of traditional dhows. An Al Wakrah map poster brings together the old harbour town and the newer city in a single frame.
The restored souq along the coast keeps a dense, fine-grained pattern of lanes. It is visibly different from the large blocks of the newer districts inland.
A long, clean coastline runs along the eastern side of the map. The sea gives the poster a large, calm area and a clear sense of orientation.
Inland, broad residential blocks, roundabouts and highways form a geometric pattern that shows how quickly the city has grown beyond its historic core.

Koteā ko Al Wakrah
Al Wakrah is home to long-established Qatari families and to many residents who arrived more recently, and a map of the city means something different to each of them. For some it marks where they grew up. For others it recalls a stay, a job or the 2022 tournament.
Set the title, subtitle and coordinates line, in English or with a name of your choosing, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand in particular matches the coastal desert setting. HD files are $9 with no watermark.
