Amarpur lies in Banka district in south-eastern Bihar, on the plains south of the Ganges, where the land begins to rise gently toward the hills along the Jharkhand border. The town is a local market centre for the surrounding villages. From above it appears as a dense cluster of lanes and houses set among open fields.
