Te mapa
Andé is a town in the south-east of Ivory Coast, in a landscape of plantations, patches of forest and red laterite roads. Seen from above it is compact, a cluster of streets and compounds gathered around the roads that link it to nearby towns, with green farmland pressing in from every side.
In places like this, the map is made less by planned avenues than by paths worn over years of daily use. Tracks branch off the main road, lead to fields or neighbouring villages, and sometimes stop abruptly. The result is a loose, organic network that looks quite unlike the grids of European or American towns.
An Andé map poster turns that network into fine lines on a pale ground. Because the town is small, the drawing has room to show individual lanes and the way they thin out at the edges. It is a modest subject, and that modesty is what makes it read as a personal record more than a tourist image.
The principal road through town carries most of the built area along it, giving the map a clear axis from which smaller streets branch.
Side lanes and footpaths form an irregular web between compounds, shaped by use more than by planning, which gives the poster a hand-drawn quality.
Beyond the last houses, tracks run out into plantations and forest, so the town appears as a small dense knot inside a wide, quiet surround.

Koteā ko Andé
An Andé map is usually hung by someone with a direct tie to the town: born there, family still there, or a stretch of life spent there. It keeps a place that rarely appears on printed maps visible on a wall far away.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, a family name or a date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files are $9, and printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries.
