Te mapa
Arivonimamo lies in the central highlands of Madagascar, in the Itasy region west of Antananarivo, on the main national road that crosses the plateau. From above, the town follows that road as a long band of streets, with smaller lanes reaching up the hillsides and down into the valleys on either side.
The landscape around it is typical of the Malagasy highlands. Rounded hills of red earth rise above valley floors that have been shaped into rice paddies. On a map, the paddies show up as fine, irregular patterns following the low ground, while settlements and tracks tend to stay on higher, drier slopes. Town and farmland are closely interwoven.
The name Arivonimamo is often explained in Malagasy as referring to a thousand people, a reminder of how place names in the highlands carry stories. An Arivonimamo map poster records the relationship between the highway, the hills and the valleys: a small town shaped by its roads and by the terrain around them.
The main road west from the capital passes through town and forms its spine. On the poster, it is the strongest line, with streets branching off it.
Low ground around the town is used for paddies, creating soft, irregular patterns between the hills. They add a gentle texture to the print.
Smaller lanes climb away from the road onto the surrounding slopes. They give the town an uneven, branching outline instead of a compact block.
