Te mapa
Arucas sits on the northern slopes of Gran Canaria, a few kilometres inland from the Atlantic coast. Its compact historic centre has narrow streets packed around a central church, and the town is overlooked by the Montaña de Arucas, a volcanic cone whose summit gives wide views to the sea. Around it, terraced plantations and ravines break up the land.
The town is best known for the Church of San Juan Bautista, a neo-Gothic building of dark volcanic stone that towers over the surrounding rooftops. Arucas is also associated with banana growing and with the Arehucas rum distillery, one of the island's best-known producers.
An Arucas map poster shows an island town shaped by volcanic terrain. The dense old streets form the centre, the mountain interrupts the grid, and the ravines and fields lead the eye towards the coast. It is a fitting keepsake from Gran Canaria.
This volcanic cone rises just beside the town. On the map its circular road and slopes create a distinctive rounded shape next to the street grid.
Narrow streets gather around the church of San Juan Bautista. From above this old core forms the densest part of the town.
Banana fields and dry ravines extend towards the Atlantic. They break the land into irregular strips that give the poster a varied texture.
