Te mapa
Madeira rises from the Atlantic far off the coast of Morocco. Its outline is long and fairly narrow, running east to west. From above, the most striking thing is how closely the towns hug the coast. The interior is a high, deeply folded massif of ridges and ravines. Winding roads cross it, and so do a growing number of tunnels, which appear on the map as sudden straight lines through the mountains.
Funchal spreads up the slopes of a natural amphitheatre on the south coast, its streets climbing in tight switchbacks from the harbour. Further east, the airport runway runs along the shore, partly raised on columns above the sea. Beyond it, the Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula tapers into a bare, narrow point. A Madeira Island map poster traces all of this in a single, elegant silhouette.
The island is known for its levadas, irrigation channels cut along the mountainsides that now double as walking paths. Its laurel forest, the Laurisilva, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Madeira wine, fortified and famous for how long it lasts, has been shipped from Funchal for centuries and is still aged in the town's old lodges.
The capital climbs steeply from the waterfront into the hills. Its streets curl into dense loops and switchbacks, making the southern shore the busiest part of the map.
At the eastern tip the island narrows into a long, bare peninsula with almost no roads. This slender tail gives the whole outline its distinctive shape.
Mountain roads twist along the valleys, while newer tunnels cut straight through the ridges. Together they create a lively contrast of curves and direct lines across the island.

Koteā ko Madeira Island
Madeira means levada walks, sea views from very steep roads and long winter holidays in the sun. The map is a natural choice for hikers, for families with Madeiran roots, and for couples who married or honeymooned on the island.
