Te mapa
Porto Santo lies northeast of Madeira and is the smaller, flatter and drier of the archipelago's two inhabited islands. Its outline is compact, with steep volcanic peaks at the northeast and southwest ends and a lower plain between them. The south coast is one continuous curve of sand, about nine kilometres long, which is the island's main draw.
The town of Vila Baleira sits at the middle of that beach. Christopher Columbus lived on the island for a time after marrying the daughter of its first captain, and a house associated with him stands in the town. Across the central plain runs the island's airport runway, one of the largest built features on the map.
A Porto Santo map poster sets the long sandy southern shore against the jagged peaks at either end. The town's grid, the runway and a few roads sit in the flatter middle, and small islets lie off the southwest tip. It is a clear, legible island that reads well even at the smallest print size.
A single stretch of golden sand runs along most of the south coast. On the map it is a smooth, gentle curve in contrast to the rocky north shore.
The island's only town, set at the middle of the beach. Its short streets and small squares form a compact grid behind the waterfront.
The airport runway cuts across the island's flat centre. It is one of the few straight lines in the landscape and anchors the composition.

Koteā ko Porto Santo
Porto Santo is often the quiet, beach-side half of a Madeira trip, or a place Madeirans themselves escape to in summer. The map keeps the whole of that long shoreline in a single frame.
Add a date, a name or the hotel along the beach in the title and subtitle, and edit the coordinates line to match. Sand suits the golden shoreline, and Classic black and white keeps the volcanic outline sharp.
