Bagayevskaya Map Poster & Print
Bagayevskaya is a stanitsa on the lower Don in Rostov Oblast, east of Rostov-on-Don. It began as a Cossack settlement, and like many stanitsas along the river it stretches along the water instead of forming a round town. From above, long parallel streets run beside the Don, with shorter lanes crossing between them.
The land here is low and flat. The Don floodplain spreads out in channels, oxbows and meadows, and beyond it lies farmland typical of the southern Russian steppe. The river has always shaped life in the stanitsa, from fishing and river transport to the gardens and orchards behind the houses.
