Baitao is a town in Fuling District, Chongqing, set in the rugged hill country south of the Yangtze. The Wu River runs through the area, and the town follows it closely. From above, buildings and streets form a narrow ribbon between the water and steep slopes, a common pattern in this part of south-western China.
On a black-and-white map the river is the defining line. Streets run parallel to it on the few flat strips available, while roads switch back up the hillsides and bridges cross the water. The contrast between a dense riverside strip and nearly empty mountain terrain gives the composition a strong, elongated shape.
Baitao is also known as the location of the 816 Project, a vast underground facility built into a mountain during the Cold War and later opened to visitors. A Baitao map poster shows the valley setting that made such a hidden site possible.
The river runs through the town and dictates its shape, with streets lined up along the banks and hills rising sharply on both sides.
Roads leave the valley floor in tight bends to climb the slopes, drawing zigzag lines that contrast with the straight riverside streets.
Bridges connect the two banks and appear as short, clear strokes across the water, linking the town to roads heading toward central Fuling.

Koteā ko Baitao
Riverside towns in Chongqing's mountains have some of the most dramatic plans in China. A Baitao poster captures that shape simply, whether for someone from the town or for a visitor who remembers the valley.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and get 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9 or a matte printed poster.
