Bambari is the capital of Ouaka prefecture and one of the larger towns of the Central African Republic, near the geographical centre of the country. It lies on the Ouaka River, part of the Ubangi basin. On a map, the river forms the main natural line, curving past the town with the built-up area arranged along its banks.
