Te mapa
Belitung lies in the Java Sea, east of Bangka and west of Borneo. Seen from above, it is compact and broad rather than long. The coastline is gently scalloped, with headlands of piled granite boulders separating sandy coves, and small islands lie offshore, especially to the north and west. Rivers wind out of a low, forested interior and reach the sea through stretches of mangrove.
Tanjung Pandan, the main town, sits at a river mouth on the west coast, with a denser grid of streets around its harbour. Manggar lies on the east coast, and roads cross the island between the two, branching toward villages and beaches. Former tin mines have left irregular pits and lakes, some of them now pale turquoise pools. A Belitung Island map poster shows each of these layers clearly.
Tin has shaped the island for generations, and mining still shows in its settlements and scarred ground. Belitung became widely known in Indonesia through Laskar Pelangi, a novel and film set among its schools and mining towns. Its granite coastline now draws visitors from across the region, and the island is recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark for its geology and landscapes.
Boulder-strewn headlands break the shore into a sequence of small bays. On the map they appear as fine, repeated indentations along an otherwise smooth, rounded outline.
The island's main town spreads around a river mouth on the west coast, where the street pattern thickens into the densest cluster of lines on the whole island.
Old tin and kaolin workings survive as irregular ponds and pits across the interior, adding unexpected shapes to an otherwise open green centre.

Koteā ko Belitung Island
Many people remember Belitung for its beaches, its boulders and slow days spent hopping between islands. The map suits anyone with roots here, a family link to the mining towns, or a trip that ended on one of its northern shores.
