Te mapa
Belterra sits on a plateau above the Tapajós river in western Pará, not far from Santarém. The Ford Motor Company founded it in the 1930s as a rubber plantation town, the successor to the better-known Fordlândia further upriver. The company planned it with straight roads, rows of houses and service buildings, and that plan can still be seen from above.
On a map, Belterra looks surprisingly regular for a town in the Amazon. Long, straight avenues divide the ground into blocks, and the former plantation land stretches outward in large, geometric parcels. Some American-style houses from the Ford era remain, and their layout gives the old core a different rhythm from other towns in the region.
To the west and south lies the Tapajós National Forest, where the grid gives way to dense green crossed by only a few tracks. A Belterra map poster captures the contrast between an imported plan and the forest around it. In one compact image it tells a story of industry, ambition and the Amazon.

The town sits on high, flat ground above the river, and the drop toward the water marks the edge of the settled area.
Beyond the town, the Tapajós National Forest fills the map with open space, crossed by only a few thin roads and tracks.
