Berwyn is a suburb directly west of Chicago, and its map is a textbook example of the Midwestern grid. Narrow residential streets run in even rows, and lots are set close together. The city is known for its many Chicago bungalows, the brick houses built mainly in the 1910s and 1920s that line block after block.
The grid is crossed by a few important roads. Ogden Avenue, once part of Route 66, runs diagonally across the city. Cermak Road and Roosevelt Road form busy east–west commercial corridors. A commuter rail line runs along the north side, and the tree-lined residential streets fill the rest of the map.
