Te mapa
Borðoy is one of the Norðoyar, the northern islands of the Faroes. Like its neighbours, it is made of long, parallel mountain ridges separated by deep fjords. From above it has an irregular, fingered outline. Its slopes fall steeply into the sea, and roads are limited to the few valleys and shores where the ground allows them.
Most of the island's life is in Klaksvík, the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands, built on a low isthmus between two bays. The streets fill that neck of land and curve up the slopes on both sides. This gives a Borðoy map poster a clear focal point: a compact settlement pinched between two inlets and surrounded by mountains.
Borðoy is tied to its neighbours by engineering. Causeways connect it to Kunoy and Viðoy, and since 2006 an undersea road tunnel has linked Klaksvík with Eysturoy and the rest of the road network. Klaksvík is above all a fishing town, and its harbour is one of the most important in the country.
The town fills a narrow strip of low ground between two bays, with its fishing harbour on the water. It is the island's densest and most recognisable pattern of streets.
Causeways link Borðoy to Kunoy and Viðoy, joining three separate islands into one road system. On the map they appear as short, straight lines across the water.
Steep ridges run the length of the island, with valleys and fjords between them. Their tightly packed contours give the print the layered, directional texture typical of the northern Faroes.

Koteā ko Borðoy
Borðoy is a map for Klaksvík families, for fishermen and their crews, and for travellers who drove north through the tunnel and watched the landscape grow steeper. The island's shape is complex but clean, a good subject for anyone who likes graphic, uncluttered prints.
You can set the title in Faroese, add a subtitle and edit the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy the $9 HD files to print locally, or order a matte poster shipped from a nearby print partner.
