Te mapa
Svínoy is one of the Northern Isles of the Faroe Islands, near Viðoy and Fugloy. From above it is a small, rugged block of land with steep grassy slopes and cliffs along much of its coast. There are almost no roads, so the map is shaped by contour lines, streams and the shoreline rather than by streets.
The island has one village, also called Svínoy, set where a valley runs down to the shore. Its houses, church and small harbour are the only settled area, a tight cluster against a wide stretch of open hillside. People get there by ferry from Hvannasund on Viðoy and, on certain days, by a helicopter service that links the Northern Isles.
The name Svínoy means Pig Island. Like many of the outer Faroese islands, it has a small population that has shrunk over the decades, and daily life follows the rhythm of the boat. A Svínoy map poster preserves the island as it is: a quiet shape in the North Atlantic, with a few signs of people set against steep ground and open sea.
The island's only settlement sits where a valley meets the shore. Its handful of roads and buildings make up almost all the fine detail on the poster.
Cliffs and sharp slopes line much of the shore, so the outline reads as a firm, solid edge with very few low beaches or inlets.
Narrow sounds separate Svínoy from its neighbours in the Northern Isles. In a wider frame, their outlines appear close by across the water.

Koteā ko Svínoy
Svínoy has a small, close community and a wide circle of people whose families come from it. A map poster is a quiet, precise reminder of home, or of a visit that took a boat, good weather and patience.
You can set the title and subtitle, add a family name or a date, and change the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles; Noir and Paper both suit the Faroese landscape. The digital files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
