Te mapa
Chachapoyas is the capital of the Amazonas region in northern Peru. It sits at about 2,300 metres in the eastern Andes, where the mountains start to drop towards the Amazon basin. The city was founded by the Spanish in 1538, and its centre still follows a regular colonial grid around the Plaza de Armas, lined with whitewashed houses and wooden balconies.
From above, that grid is a small, orderly patch in a landscape of ridges and valleys. The streets run straight while the terrain around them does not, and roads leaving the city twist along contours and slopes. The edges of the built-up area are uneven, following the shape of the land rather than any plan.
The city takes its name from the Chachapoya culture, whose builders left the vast stone fortress of Kuélap on a ridge not far away, and the tall Gocta waterfall lies in the same region. A Chachapoyas map poster does not show those sites directly. Instead, it frames the colonial core and the mountain country that has made this corner of Peru feel remote for centuries.
The main square sits at the heart of the colonial grid, with straight streets running out from it in a regular, easy-to-read pattern.
Evenly spaced blocks laid out in the sixteenth century still define the centre, clear and ordered against the irregular terrain around them.
Routes out of the city wind along slopes and valleys, their switchbacks showing how steep and folded the surrounding Andean landscape is.

Koteā ko Chachapoyas
Travellers who came to see Kuélap or Gocta often remember Chachapoyas as the calm, white-walled base for their trip. For them and for people from the region, this map is a clean reminder of a city at the edge of the Andes.
Add a custom title and subtitle, such as a trip date or a phrase, and adjust the coordinates line. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir makes the small grid stand out against the dark mountains.
