Te mapa
Chumphon sits where southern Thailand narrows toward the peninsula, a provincial capital a short distance inland from the Gulf of Thailand. On the map the town reads as a compact core of streets beside a winding river, with the railway line and main highway running north to south along the isthmus. Beyond the built-up area, the sheet fills with farmland, orchards and the fringes of the coast.
For many travellers the town is a waypoint: trains and buses stop here on the long route south, and boats leave from nearby piers for Ko Tao and the other islands of the gulf. That transit role shows in the plan, with the station, the through roads and the routes toward the sea giving the town its orientation. A Chumphon map poster keeps that sense of a place in between.
The coast east of town is shaped by beaches, headlands and small river mouths, and the province takes pride in its link to Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, the Prince of Chumphon, honoured as a founder of the modern Thai navy. In black and white, the pale ribbon of the river and the jagged shoreline give the composition a calm, open edge.
A river curves through Chumphon on its way to the gulf, and its looping course is the most organic line on the map, cutting across the more regular blocks of the centre.
The railway to southern Thailand runs through the town, a firm straight stroke on the poster that explains why so many journeys south pause here.
Frame the map a little wider and the Gulf of Thailand appears to the east, with sandy bays, headlands and river mouths drawing a long, irregular edge.

Koteā ko Chumphon
People hang Chumphon for a trip that started or paused here: a night train, a ferry to the islands, a stretch of coast they came back to. Others have family in the province. The map holds the town and its route to the sea in a single, quiet image.
