Te mapa
Daizhuang lies in the north of Jiangsu Province, in the broad lowland near the city of Xuzhou. The land here is almost perfectly level, and on a map that flatness shows as order: straight roads, rectangular fields and a town centre laid out along a few main streets, surrounded by villages spaced across the plain.
Like many small towns in this part of China, Daizhuang is closely tied to the farmland around it. The pattern of fields, tracks and drainage lines extends in every direction, broken only by clusters of houses and the occasional larger road linking the town to its neighbours and to the regional centres beyond.
A Daizhuang map poster is a study in rhythm. Without hills or coastline to interrupt it, the design relies on the repetition of fields and the contrast between the denser town centre and the open land around it. It is a quiet, graphic image, and one that means most to those who know the place first-hand.
The main streets of Daizhuang gather into a compact core, the densest area on the map and the point from which roads spread out across the plain.
Rectangular plots and straight farm tracks cover the surrounding land, forming an even, repeating pattern that gives the poster its distinctive texture.
Small villages sit at intervals around the town, connected by narrow roads, so the outer map becomes a light scatter of settlements across the countryside.
