Dapeng is a town in northern Jiangsu, located in the Xuzhou area close to the borders with Shandong and Anhui. The landscape here is part of the wide North China Plain, flat and heavily cultivated, and from above the town appears as a rectangular patch of streets set within a tidy grid of fields.
The flatness shapes everything. Main roads run straight for long distances, drainage channels divide the farmland into strips, and newer housing compounds sit in orderly rows.
