Te mapa
Dapitan lies in Zamboanga del Norte, on the northwestern coast of Mindanao. From above, the old town sits close to the water on Dapitan Bay, with a small grid of streets around its central plaza and church, while newer roads spread along the coast and into the hills. Beyond the town, farmland and forest cover much of the land.
Dapitan is best known as the place where José Rizal, the Philippine national hero, lived in exile from 1892 to 1896. During those years he practised medicine, taught local boys and worked on community projects, and the site of his home is preserved as a shrine. The Spanish-era church of Saint James in the town centre is also linked to his time here.
A Dapitan map poster shows a small historic town shaped by its bay: a compact centre, a curving shoreline and roads following the coast toward nearby Dipolog, with hills rising behind. It is a simple, balanced print that means a great deal to anyone who knows the story behind the name.
The bay curves along the town's edge, giving the map a soft coastline and a wide stretch of open water that balances the streets inland.
The old centre is organised around a plaza and the Spanish-era church of Saint James, where a compact grid of streets marks the historic core.
The site where José Rizal lived during his exile lies near the shore, a historic landmark that gives the map a clear point of reference.
