Te mapa
Dêqên lies in the Lhasa River valley, a short distance east of Lhasa, as the seat of Dagzê District. At well over 3,500 metres, it occupies a narrow band of flat land between the river and mountains that rise sharply on both sides. On a map that setting defines everything: the town stretches along the valley floor, and the streets rarely climb far from it.
The river itself is broad and braided, spreading into several channels across a wide gravel bed, and it forms the largest single feature of the composition. A main road follows the valley toward Lhasa, with a few bridges linking the two sides. Beyond the edges of the town, farmland and open slopes fill the frame.
A Dêqên map poster offers a spare, geographic image: river channels, a thin line of settlement and the emptiness of high ground around it. Because there is little density to fill the page, the landscape does much of the work, and the print has an open, almost diagrammatic calm that suits minimalist interiors.
The Lhasa River spreads into multiple channels through a wide bed. On the poster these interlacing lines become the dominant pattern of the whole map.
Streets are confined to the flat land beside the river, hemmed in by slopes on either side, so the settlement forms a compact band rather than a spreading network.
The valley road running west toward the regional capital is the main thread connecting Dêqên with the wider region, a clear line across the frame.

Koteā ko Dêqên
Dêqên appeals to people who value landscape as much as streets: the scale of a Tibetan valley, the shape of a river at altitude. A map of it is spare and precise, an image of a place defined by its geography.
