Duitama Map Poster & Print
Duitama lies in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes, in the department of Boyacá, at an altitude of about 2,500 metres. It occupies a flat highland valley between mountain ridges. On a map, the colonial grid of the centre is clear, with regular blocks around a main square, and newer districts spread outward across the valley floor.
The slopes rise abruptly at the edges of the valley, and the street pattern breaks up and curves as it climbs them. A Duitama map poster shows this contrast between the orderly centre and the irregular hillside neighbourhoods, with farmland and open country beyond. A main highway passes through the city, connecting it to Paipa and Sogamoso.
Known in the region as the civic capital of Boyacá, Duitama is a commercial and transport centre for the surrounding highlands, with industry and trade concentrated along the main roads. From above, the city fills the valley floor almost from side to side, a dense grid framed by mountains and the fields of the Boyacá countryside.
