Te mapa
Fortress Hill lies on the north shore of Hong Kong Island, between Causeway Bay and North Point. From above it is a narrow band of city squeezed between wooded slopes to the south and Victoria Harbour to the north. King's Road runs through it parallel to the shore, and short streets climb from it up the hill.
The district takes its name from a hill that once had a British military fort. Today its best-known landmark is the MTR station of the same name on the Island Line. Along the waterfront, the Island Eastern Corridor carries traffic past on an elevated road, and this shows clearly on the map as a long curve next to the harbour.
A Fortress Hill map poster brings the harbour edge, the busy road corridors and the steep residential streets into one tight frame. This compact part of Hong Kong is shaped equally by the water and the hill.
The main road of the north shore runs straight through the district. The rest of the street pattern hangs from this spine between the hill and the sea.
The Island Eastern Corridor follows the waterfront on an elevated road. It traces a smooth curve that sets the city apart from the open water of Victoria Harbour.
Short, steep streets climb south from King's Road toward the green slopes. Along the upper edge of the map, the grid gives way to hillside.
