Te mapa
Fukiage-fujimi is a residential area in Saitama Prefecture on the flat northern Kanto Plain, in the former town of Fukiage, which has since been merged into Kōnosu. From above it is a tidy grid of housing streets bordered by rice paddies and farm plots, with the JR Takasaki Line running nearby as a firm straight line through the landscape.
The Arakawa flows not far to the southwest. Around Kōnosu the river is known for an exceptionally wide channel between its levees, often cited as the widest river span in Japan. On a map, that floodplain shows as a broad open band of fields and riverbank, a striking contrast with the dense housing blocks around it.
A Fukiage-fujimi map poster captures the Kanto suburban pattern at its most orderly: regular blocks, small parks, the rail corridor, and farmland arranged in neat rectangles. It is an understated map. Its appeal is in the rhythm of repeated shapes and in the thin lines of canals and roads running across the plain.
The railway cuts a long straight line across the plain, with residential streets arranged on either side of the tracks.
The wide space between the river's levees appears as a pale open band to the southwest, among the widest river channels in the country.
Rice fields around the housing blocks form rectangles and fine irrigation lines that give the edges of the map a precise texture.
