Te mapa
Grímsey lies about forty kilometres off Iceland's north coast and is the country's northernmost inhabited place. It is small and compact, a little over five square kilometres, with high sea cliffs along much of its eastern side and lower ground to the west, where the harbour and the island's few houses stand. An airstrip runs across the southern part.
The Arctic Circle passes across the island, and a marker stands at the line for visitors who make the crossing. Grímsey is also known for its seabird colonies, including puffins, which nest in large numbers along the cliffs in summer. Ferries run from Dalvík on the mainland, and small planes fly from Akureyri.
A Grímsey map poster is mostly sea, with the island as a small, precise outline in the middle. A short road, the harbour, the airstrip and the cliff edge give just enough structure, and the coordinates line takes on real meaning here, sitting only a short distance from sixty-six degrees north.

High basalt cliffs line the eastern shore, home to large seabird colonies in summer. On the map they appear as a sharp, unbroken edge facing the open ocean.
The small harbour on the west coast and the airstrip in the south are the island's lifelines. Together with a short road they make up nearly all of its built detail.

Koteā ko Grímsey
Grímsey is hung by people who made the trip north to cross the Arctic Circle, or who simply like the idea of a very small island at the top of the map. It is a quiet, graphic poster.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with the date of your crossing or the Icelandic name. Noir suits the northern sea and long winter nights, while Classic black and white keeps the cliffs crisp.
