Te mapa
Halesowen lies on the southwestern edge of the West Midlands conurbation, where the urban area of the Black Country meets rising countryside. On a map the town has an irregular street pattern shaped by hills and valleys, with the River Stour beginning its course nearby and the Clent Hills forming an open edge to the south.
The town has a long industrial past, including nail-making and metalworking. It is also known for The Leasowes, an eighteenth-century landscaped park created by the poet William Shenstone, and for the ruins of Halesowen Abbey, founded in the thirteenth century.
A Halesowen map poster shows a town that is both urban and green: residential streets curving across slopes, the open shapes of parks and fields, and the watercourses of the upper Stour. It reads as a place on the edge of the city, not fully absorbed by it.
This historic landscaped park forms a large green space on the map, with paths and water features laid out in the eighteenth century.
The River Stour rises near the town, and its early course adds fine winding lines through the valleys around Halesowen.
To the south, the built-up area gives way to the open Clent Hills, marking a clear boundary between town and countryside.
